Catography Portraits

All the cats painted in this collection are from the incredible Lanai Cat Sanctuary in Maui, Hawaii. I was very lucky to visit in 2018 and spent sunrise to sunset on the island, photographing, feeding, and playing with the cats. The sanctuary now has 700 living safely in their forever home, cared for by attentive and dedicated staff. What a life! To find out more about Lanai Cat Sanctuary check out their website ....

Pop Up Puss

(I was lying on the grass, focusing on a kitty in the tree above, when this cheeky fella decided to steal the show. My absolute favorite face from Lanai. I have produced so many variations of him, and so many more in mind, I could have an entire exhibition with this one face!)

Footsie

(Hiding in a shady patch under a yellow chair, I lay down to say hello, put my hand out, and that started an epic game of Footsie. I think she may have been fascinated with my sparkly nail polish.)

A sea of feline faces created from the hand cut stencils. Inspired by the many pairs of eyes watching you wathing them, and the strippped patterned of the tabby cats.

Gaze

My aim is to capture the expressions of cats, and to add an abstract dynamic to the picture without losing the essence of the origanal photo.

My aim is to be able to immediately recognise the photograph that the painting represents.

As for the colour choices, I just wanted to use some of my favorite colour combos.
